Over the summer, we will prepare to host another round of small-group dialogue sessions in October, this time focusing on the Eucharist. Look for information on how to register for these sessions in the coming weeks. More information is available online at sdcatholicorg/synod. Please take the time to view the video featuring Deacon Terry Hannify. The link is provided below.
The live streamed Mass for 8:30 on Sundays has been discontinued until further notice. Live Masses are available on Catholic TV Network and EWTN. Cox subscribers may also view 8:30 a.m. Sunday Mass on Channel 9.
Holy day of obligation for Christmas is fulfilled by attending Mass after 4 pm on Dec. 24th or anytime on Dec. 25th. An evening Mass on December 25 does not fulfill the Sunday obligation for December 26.
“Should I go to Mass this weekend?” Many faithful wrestle with this question, amid the latest news on the coronavirus. But perhaps answering the question, “Why should I go to Mass?” and understanding the blessings of encountering the real presence of Christ will offer the compelling reason to attend Mass in person. To help promote this, the diocese is launching a seven-week program to re-introduce the gifts received when attending Mass, none greater than the Eucharist. On three consecutive weekends, pre-recorded homilies will be presented at every parish, each keyed to a distinct theme. They start on Sept. 11 with the Saturday vigil Mass, to be followed by the Sunday Masses the next day, and continuing to Sept. 26. The homilies will be available in English, Spanish and Vietnamese. The video of each homily will be available each Sunday after 12 noon. Click on the graphic: Be Renewed, Eucharist Initiative to access the link.
Please be advised that Fr. Jose Maldonado, a priest from the Diocese of Izabal, Guatemala has been exercising priestly ministry in the Diocese of San Diego. Fr. COVID restrictions have been lifted except for sharing of the Chalice. Face masks are optional and are recommended for those not vaccinated. Distribution of the Eucharist will resume on the tongue and will continue in the hand.

This Sunday [July 28, 2019} Bishop McElroy will be celebrating the 8:30 am and 10 am Masses. He will share with our parishioners about the future staffing of Immaculate Conception Parish. As many of you know, The Franciscan School of Theology will be moving from Mission San Luis Rey to the University of San Diego Campus. Besides teaching our seminarians theology, they will be offering classes for at the graduate level for laypersons. The Franciscans staffed Immaculate Conception from 1925 until 1952. Bishop McElroy has invited them to come back to Immaculate Conception Parish. There will be at least three of them from FST that will be in residence in the rectory. They will provide Sacramental Ministry for the parish (Mass, Baptisms, Confession, etc.) They will not be able to start until February 1st, though. The Bishop is also seeking to appoint a Deacon as the Parish Administrator on a part-time basis to handle the everyday operations of the parish since the Franciscans have a commitment to teaching at USD. Since it will be five months before they arrive, the Bishop will also assign a priest to celebrate Mass on Sundays and during the week until they arrive. The Franciscans have played an important part in the history of our parish. They are making a three-year commitment to be here which is renewable in the future. To have three Franciscans living in the rectory and celebrating the sacramental needs of the parish will be a real grace. I truly believe God is actively blessing our parish. With prayers and gratitude for the goodness of our parishioners, Fr. Mike
Most Reverent John P. Dolan, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of San Diego, will preside at the 10:00 Mass. Other events are planned. Children under 2, free. Barbecue is from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Email Scam. An email scam is being spread within our diocese where an email supposedly from the “pastor” requesting iTunes cards, or other gift cards, is sent to the parish staff and/or parishioners whose information has been published in the parish bulletin or web site. Disregard and delete these emails. Such a request will never come through an email.
